The main publication of Bharat Bhavan is the POORVAGRAH, a quarterly magazine of literary criticism in Hindi. Widely considered the finest magazine in Hindi, POORVAGRAH began its journey as a Madhya Pradesh Kala Parishad publication in 1976 and came to Bharat Bhavan in 1985. POORVAGRAH known for its high editorial standards and avant-gardism, pioneered art criticism in Hindi besides soon emerging as the trendsetter in criticism. Its special numbers on great contemporary writers are Jaya Shanker Prased , Hajari Prasad Dwivedi , S.H.Vatsyayan Ajneya , Gajanan Madhava Muktibodh, Jainendra Kumar, Shamsher Bahadur Singh, Fanishwara Nath Renu, Raghuveer Sahaya, Namver Singh, Vijaya Dev Narayan Sahi, Krishna Baldev Vaid, Nirmal Verma , Ramesh Chandra Shah, J. Swaminathan, S.H.Raza, Kumar Gandharva and many special numbers on poetry, fiction, literary criticism etc. and events like the World Poetry Festival, hava been hailed as landmark achievements. From Ashok Vajpeyi, the founding editor, to Prabhakar Shotriya the present chief editor, it had the privilege of being edited by some of the most respected and capable Hindi critics / writers.
